John 2:13-22

Pastor: Mike Emery Series: John Verse: John 2:13–22

This message walks through John 2:13–22, where Jesus cleanses the temple, and powerfully connects that moment to the work He desires to do in our lives. It emphasizes that Jesus’ actions were not out of rage but driven by zeal—a passionate, jealous love—for the purity of God's house and His people. The message contrasts the chaos of the temple courts, filled with greed and distraction, with God’s original intention for a sacred space of worship. Just as Jesus physically cleared the temple to restore reverence, He desires to cleanse our hearts—His new dwelling place—from anything that hinders a full, undistracted relationship with Him.

At its core, this message presents a two-part spiritual journey: transformation followed by cleansing. Jesus first transforms us—like turning water into wine—making us new creations through salvation. Then, through the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, He cleanses our lives, removing what does not belong and helping us become holy as He is holy. The message challenges both individuals and the church to reflect on what Jesus would find if He entered the “temples” of our lives and our gatherings. It calls believers to invite Jesus to purify their hearts and make space for authentic worship, marked by reverence, unity, and devotion to Him.
