Life Line Ministries Jim Hakes started Life Line in February of 2000. He began in a small convalescent home called Sunbridge Care in the North Park area of San Diego. Every Sunday afternoon, Jim would read the Bible to all the patients that could not see well enough to read it on their own. As the patients were transferred to other homes in the San Diego area, Jim would go to visit them and in turn was asked to do a Bible Study for them. Within 5 months, Jim found himself doing 5 Bible Studies every Sunday in as many as 4 to 5 different homes. This new ministry, still in its infancy, was brought to Sonrise Community Church in December of 2000 and by February of 2003, Life Line Ministries had grown considerably to 14 volunteers, ministering 9 homes. In August 2003, Jim Hakes was ordained and brought onboard Sonrise to work full time on his ministry. His ministry then had been blessed with 53 volunteers in 18 different homes. By May 2004, Life Line has grown to nearly 80 volunteers visiting 30 homes across San Diego county so that many of the lonely seniors there can be comforted with the Word of God. In 2004 alone, 26 people have come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through our Bible Studies and room to room visits, and that number increases almost weekly! Pastor Jim's vision is see the ministry grow to 1,000 volunteers in 200 homes reaching all of Southern California. His ministry is to reach in with the Word of God to those who can't reach out. Special Care There are literally thousands of mentally disabled in East County alone who need our help. They are God's special children still capable of learning about Jesus. What do they bring to us? "Unconditional love". The same love that Jesus showed for us. The Special Care activities and Sunday School Class began June of 2004, and is tailored to anyone with a learning disorder who may want a closer walk with Him. We share many stories of the Bible, we learn to pray and to fellowship together. Sunday school meets at 9:00 AM in the Drawing Room, and is taught by Pastor Jim Hakes. |
